A bench mounted vapour compression refrigeration cycle demonstration unit using a hermetic compressor and water cooled flooded glass condenser and evaporator. A float controlled expansion device controls the flow of refrigerant in the system.
5. Thermoelectric Heat Pump
It can be used either for heating or for cooling, although in practice the main application is cooling.
6. Refrigerator Laboratory Unit
Laboratory refrigerators are used to cool samples or specimens for preservation. They include refrigeration units for storing blood plasma and other blood products, as well as vaccines and other medical or pharmaceutical supplies.
7. Fire Alarm Trainer
A system or portion of a combination system that consists of components and circuits arranged to monitor and annunciate the status of fire alarm or supervisory signal-initiating devices and to initiate the appropriate response to those signals.
B: AERODYNAMICS LABORATORY
1. AF100 Tunnel Control and Instrumentation Unit
A compact, practical open-circuit suction wind tunnel for studying aerodynamics.
2. Flow Channel
Open-channel flow, a branch of hydraulics and fluid mechanics, is a type of liquid flow within a conduit with a free surface, known as a channel. The other type of flow within a conduit is pipe flow. These two types of flow are similar in many ways, but differ in one important respect: the free surface.
3. AF41 Flight Demonstration Wind Tunnel
An open-circuit wind tunnel incorporating a suspended aircraft model with realistic controls for classroom demonstrations and student investigations into a variety of aircraft flight principles.

It is connected to the continuous supersonic wind tunnel.
5. Continuous Supersonic Wind Tunnel AF302
The AF302 is a suction type continuous operation supersonic wind tunnel with a working section of 101.6 mm x 25.4 mm that allows investigations into supersonic airflow around 2-dimensional models.

C: THERMODYNAMIC /HEAT TRANSFER LABORATORY
1. Pressure Measurement Bench
A bench mounting apparatus to enable practical demonstrations and investigations into pressure and vacuum measurement techniques using manometers and Bourdon type gauges.
2. Air flow heat transfer and Aerodynamics Bench
The Air Flow Bench is a modular design which enables numerous add-on units to be used with this service bench, ensuring that the scope of the work which can be dealt with can be enlarged as required. The full range of experiments is shown here in brief detail for all three disciplines, whereas information on Heat Transfer and Aerodynamics is provided on a separate leaflet.
3. Steam Separator
A steam separator, sometimes referred to as a moisture separator, is a device for separating water droplets from steam.
4. Steam Trap
A steam trap is a device used to discharge condensate and non-condensable gases with a negligible consumption or loss of live steam. Most steam traps are nothing more than automatic valves. They open, close or modulate automatically.
5. Steam Ejector
It is a pumping device. It has no moving parts. Instead, it uses a fluid or gas as a motive force. Very often, the motive fluid is steam and the device is called a “steam jet ejector.” Basic ejector components are the steam chest, nozzle, suction, throat, diffuser and they discharge
6. Natural Convection and Thermal Radiation Apparatus
The ET130 Radiation and Natural Convection apparatus contains two separate enclosures: one is electrically heated and temperature regulated while the other is water cooled. A thermocouple allows measurement of the temperature of the heat exchanger outlet.
7. Bomb Calorimeter
A thick-walled steel container used to determine the energy contained in a substance by measuring the heat generated during its combustion.

An apparatus used for determining thermal conductivity of materials.
11. Boiling Heat Transfer Apparatus
The apparatus has been developed to permit experiments on heat transfer from the solid to the liquid state under conditions of convection and nucleate boiling to be carried out and to demonstrate the effect of film boiling. Heat transfer takes place from a heated horizontal nickel filament to the water or other liquid surrounding it.
12. STD 360 Heat Exchanger Service Module
It provides hot and cold water to the heat exchangers and all the instruments needed to measure their performance. All fluid connections to the optional heat exchangers are self-sealing quick connectors – for safety and simplicity. The hot and cold fluid streams have different connectors to reduce errors.

Thermoelectric generator (TEG), also called a Seebeck generator, is a solid state device that converts heat flux (temperature differences) directly into electrical energy through a phenomenon called the Seebeck effect (a form of thermoelectric effect).

This apparatus comprises a single stage compressor coupled to an electric motor and attached to a spring balance. This apparatus enables students to investigate the laws of thermodynamics including energy balance, entropy and compressed volumetric efficiency.
D: AUTOMOTIBLE WORKSHOP
1. Multi-Cylinder Engine Test Bed
An advanced engine test bed with integrated data acquisition optimized for academic studies and offering significant scope for research. The unit is compatible with a range of engines and utilizes an eddy current dynamometer. The test bed is offered with a spark or compression ignition four stroke multi-cylinder engine but both may be supplied and interchanged on-site.

F: WELDING AND FABRICATION
1. 11 Bar Compressor Unit
An air compressor forces more and more air into a storage tank, increasing the pressure. When tank pressure reaches its upper limit the air compressor shuts off. The compressed air, then, is held in the tank until called into use

4. Vertical Milling Machine
In the vertical mill the spindle axis is vertically oriented. Milling cutters are held in the spindle and rotate on its axis. The spindle can generally be extended (or the table can be raised/lowered, giving the same effect), allowing plunge cuts and drilling. There are two subcategories of vertical mills: the bed mill and the turret mill.
5. Geared Head Precision Lathe
A gear head metal lathe offers eight speeds that vary from 70 to 2000 RPM.It also uses precision ground and hardened slide ways for all movement of the machining carriage.
